Spain Residency Requirements for EU Citizens

If you stay in Spain for more than 3 months, you need:

NIE  (Número de Identificación de Extranjeros)
EU citizen (or a national of Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland) Requirements at the National Police Department or Extranjería (Department of Foreigners):
– Valid Passport or National Identity Card
–  Fill out an application for NIE for foreigners

NIE is always needed:
– to open a bank account in Spain
– to buy property
– to open a business
– to file taxes

RESIDENCE CERTIFICATE AT THE DESIGNATED POLICE STATIONS
You should register at designated Police stations or at the Oficina de Extranjeros as a resident. You will be issued an A4 printed Residence Certificate. Approximately 7 Euros.

AVAILABILITY TO SUPPORT YOURSELF
You must provide proof that you have a job, self-employed or student and  have the means to support yourself while living in Spain.

HEALTH INSURANCE
You must also provide proof of  a public or private insurance disease contracted in Spain or in another country, to provide coverage while you live in Spain.
